Aries Season 2024 Is Gonna Kick Some Serious Ass
Chironic Wounds Around Identity, Mercurial Revisits To Finding Our Voice and Powerful Eclipses Start The Astrological New Year With a BANG!
20 hours until the Sun enters Aries, starting the astrological New Year. And here I stare, a screenful of data glaring back at me, not nearly where I’d hoped to be … and Hell, yes, that rhymed.
Settle down, Bryan! You’ve got a monthly forecast to write and the People are counting on it.
But before I get stuck writing about myself in the third person or fall into full-on “Hi, Ren” mode, let me offer an astrological excuse: The Sun is currently crossing over my dreamy, mystical Midheaven in the final degree of Pisces as the Moon is running through let’s-just-chill-out Cancer over my Ascendant.
If I were a professional astrologer, I might be inclined to inform this Bryan character that his plan to cram-write an article about what looks to be one of the most impactful astrological months of 2024 is doomed to fail.
And yet…
I’m still gonna try. After all, courage is the theme of 2024, and considering this blog hasn’t even officially started yet (look for the official first post in the next week or so), what have I got to lose? Readers who have yet to exist?
Okay, maybe a bit of pride. But this is just it: one of my challenges to myself in 2024 is to move past my desire for unobtainable perfectionism, to more fully embody the Leo Archetype and get up on the stage and sing. After all, my current favorite band—led by two Aries Sun sign fellas—is about to release what could be seen as a pretentiously epic techno-rock opera, and the main message of that work is to Just Do It, so that’s what I’m gonna do.
Before we get into it, this format is my first crack at what I plan to be a regular monthly post for the rest of Astro 2024-25. It’ll likely evolve, but please give me any feedback if you feel called to (positive, negative, or in between, just be nice about it, would ya?).
Now, I wrestled between writing these at the start of the astrological months—i.e., this is an Aries Season post—or the months on the Roman calendar. But having no love lost for the Romans, I didn’t wrestle for very long. After all, this is an astrological forecast, right?
But this points to something more profound. You see, I began my deep dive into astrology in 2019, and I’ve been so positively impacted by it that I’m studying to become a professional astrologer by 2026. One of the benefits of learning to relate to Time through the astrological calendar is that it’s a calendar that is linked with the actual expressions of the natural world.
For example, Aries Season means the start of spring (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, at least). And much of the symbolic significance of the Aries archetype is drawn from this fact.
On the other hand, if we are using a Roman calendar, what does April 1st mean? What do ya think, I’m a goddamn Fool? (Maybe I am—I’ll explain in a future post!)
So, while I love to make light of things in my communications, I’m also very earnest when I tell you that relating to Time through the cycles of astrology has been a profound way for me to deepen my sense of connection to Nature. This has resulted in a growing gratitude for being human on this wonderful planet.
If that isn’t enough to convince you, well…
… ya cheeky bastard, that’s what yer getting, and my decision is final! Here we go!

March 20: Sun Enters Aries, Happy Astro New Year!
There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen.”
- Aries Season 2024’s Motto?
Perhaps it’s appropriate that in this period of increasing confusion marked by Neptune’s transit through Pisces (2011-2025) the quote I kicked this section off with may not have been said at all.
No matter, the sentiment may fit these next four weeks. Let’s orient ourselves with the chart for the Astrological New Year, aka when the Sun enters (or “ingresses into” in astro-speak) Aries.
While this chart might, at first glance, lack the fireworks of some that we’ll be getting to, there are a few things to note, and one that stands out to me.
The first thing is that, besides the Moon in Leo, the planets are gathered in a bundle in four signs—Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, and Taurus—with a focus on Pisces and Aries. These signs, when correlated to the seasons and the light of the Sun, represent mid-winter to mid-spring, a time when, despite how things might seem on the surface, the light is increasing.
Why is this important? Well, one could see it as “it’s always darkest before the dawn.” Without going too deep into this (probably a future post or two), astrology is about cycles in time, and one of the largest cycles is sometimes called The Turning of the Ages and refers to a 26,000-year cycle related to the precession of the equinoxes. Now, some astrologers, yours truly included, love to speculate on when the Age we’ve been in for the past 2,000-odd years—the Age of Pisces—becomes the Age of Aquarius, and for reasons I’m still not totally clear on, this remains a matter of debate.
If I were asked to put my finger on it—-and I retain the right to change this opinion—I’d say that the 2020s are the decade that is akin to the Spring Equinox for the Age of Aquarius, and I have several astrological data points to make that case. (Again, a future article is warranted. Hold me to that, reader.)
What I will say, though, is that in a yearly cycle, the Spring Equinox doesn’t mean the flowers are in full bloom. Thus, when talking about a cycle of just over 2,000 years, we shouldn’t expect to be in the “springtime” of the Age of Aquarius here in the 2020s. Instead, we’re getting signals that we are entering that spring, just as it still looks like winter on the surface.
That leads me to the thing that stands out from this Spring Equinox chart that I’m adding as one more data point for my case that the 2020s are the Spring Equinox of the Age of Aquarius: Look at the Moon in early Leo opposing Pluto in early Aquarius. The Moon represents, among other things, the People, and Pluto represents, among other things, Power. While the aspiration of the Age of Aquarius is that we create a society that lives up to the ideals of liberty, equality, and justice for all, for that to happen is going to require that Power not only respects but inspires the People as individuals to become their best, most creative selves (Leo).
Without going too far down a rabbit hole that could take me into my politics, I’ll just finish by saying that as Pluto moves through Aquarius over the next 20 years, we are likely to see this conflict between the dying structures of top-down power and an emergent, networked collective of empowered individuals heating up. This Spring Equinox Moon in Leo opposite Pluto in Aquarius points to that being a theme not only for this month but for the whole of this astrological year.
March 25: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Libra
One theme for this first part of Aries Season is because the personal planets of Mercury and Venus stay in the same area of the Zodiac as the Sun and because our outer planets are all bunched in this side of the chart, we could call this “conjunction season.” We’ve got nine conjunctions of note in Aries Season.
Now, this may seem an odd time to bring that up as this chart doesn’t have any of those conjunctions, but what I want to highlight here is that because of Mercury’s retrograde (April 1 to April 25), that planet of communication is going to be hanging around Chiron and the North Node of the Moon throughout Aries Season. In this particular chart, Mercury and the North Node sandwich Chiron.
What does that mean? Well, expect a lot of needed airing of grievances. By “needed,” I’m referring to how the North Node of the Moon is bout where we are being called to evolve toward. As I wrote in my article previewing the first six months of 2024, with the North Node in Aries, this is a year for courageous action. Mercury is about our communication, and when it is in Aries, we’ll cut to the chase, for better or for worse.
So while you may feel called to express some of your deeper wounds, be careful not to fall into victim mode. A gift of astrology is growing into a Right Relationship with Time, so consider this Aries Season Mercury-North-Node-Chiron dance as an invitation to be clear and direct in your communication, while remaining mindful about when and where to do that.
Meanwhile, hopefully, reading these words will prepare you for others to do the same. And, if someone comes on too strongly, practice discerning when to put up some boundaries and when to give them compassionate space to speak freely.
Again, before we reach our next event, Mercury will put on the brakes and go retrograde on April 1st, so if you (or others) don’t get this right the first time around, Mercury’s giving us another chance later in the month.
And last, to lighten the mood, I read a funny post on X today that said perhaps Mercury in Aries Retrograde is a time to practice blocking people online! Yes, sometimes setting boundaries is a good thing, and if that means eliminating someone who just projects negative energy onto us all the time, block away, baby!
April 5: Sun Conjunct North Node, Venus Enters Aries
And now, we’re getting to the good stuff. The heart of a very powerful eclipse season, and we’re into the month of the every-13-year Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in early Taurus Season.
Heart was used intentionally there, because during these first few days of April, sensual Venus makes a conjunction with dreamy Neptune in late Pisces. So if we’ve been a bit riled up by the astrological energies of the first two weeks of Aries Season, this week looks to be a chance to remember the dreamier, hazier days of Pisces Season.
Making this an even more positive period is that the Sun makes its annual conjunction with the North Node, shining a light on how we might manifest our future vision.
It won’t necessarily be easy, though, because this will come with the challenging, evolutionary-focused square aspect from the Moon in Aquarius with that soon-to-be conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus, the sign that Venus rules. Can we embody (Moon) our idealistic vision (Aquarius) and reconcile it with the quickly shifting (Uranus) and expanding (Jupiter) sands of our physical world (Taurus)? These are heady questions, but if we spend some time on them now, by the time we reach April 5th, we may find that the solutions are easier to grasp.
(Full disclosure: Thanks to an astute reader who noticed that I’d erroneously called this a trine and took the time to comment below, I’ve now got this right. This makes me very happy because, in true Aquarian spirit, I’d love to interact with readers to make this blog as good as possible, so don’t be shy if you see a mistake or have questions or whatever. Engage!)
If you follow astrologers online, you may hear some nervousness regarding this eclipse season and, in particular, the upcoming Total Solar Eclipse—not all of it unwarranted—but here’s hoping they are holistic enough to notice that this week has some supportive, powerful energies, especially for creative projects and just being a decent, loving human who wants to make our world a better place for all of us.
April 8: Total Solar Eclipse in Aries, Conjunct Chiron
Yes, astrologers are right to get a bit giddy in talking about this one. Not only is it a total solar eclipse—a reasonably rare occurrence (six in the 2010s and six in the 2020s)—but Chiron is sitting at the exact degree, and depending on the chart, exact minute of the Sun and Moon.
In addition, it is within one degree of the United States’ natal Chiron. When you combine the path of this eclipse with the path of the eclipse from last October, well, you see a rather startling feature on the American landscape.
I’ve become so obsessed with this path that, for my desktop background, I’ve used a different photo showing major cities that this 4/8 eclipse will pass over. Austin, Dallas, Little Rock, Indianapolis, Cleveland and Syracuse, here’s looking at you, kids.
In addition, I’ve heard—but not completely confirmed—-from this fascinating discussion that the eclipse crosses over seven American towns named Salem. (I did learn there are 36 Salems in the US, and it looks like enough are in line with that path, so I’m willing to share this information here. The last thing I want to do is be the guy who creates the next “Vladimir Lenin” quote referenced at the start of this article!).
What does this all mean? Well, that’s where astrologers like me can get into trouble. I’ve done enough YouTube rabbit hole divin’ to see that the predictions range from we’re all going to be raptured by remote-controlled rabbits to a more mundane 19-0 score in an early-season MLB game—and everything in between.
Now, folks, I confess. This time I temporarily put on my fiction writing Trickster robes and made those predictions up, but, well, I have seen some pretty wild speculations.
All I can say is that a cursory consideration of this chart suggests a deep desire to evolve by examining the wounds we all feel as individuals (Chiron in Aries) trying to survive in a world of others (South Node in Libra), some of whom can be downright nasty to us. On the mundane level, I expect that when historians focus on the United States and look back on the 2020s, they’re likely to see events in April 2024 as having a big impact on that nation’s biography.
For us as individuals, no matter where we are, there’s a wonderful invitation here to really examine our core wounds, maybe give voice to them, and do some healing that can give us a heck of a lot more Power going forward. That’s my hope, at least.
April 10: Mars Conjunct Saturn in Pisces
And then, as if we haven’t had enough, just two days later, Mars makes its every-two-year conjunction with Saturn in Pisces. My read on Saturn in Pisces is these three-year periods are often times when governments play the totalitarian game, and adding war-like Mars to the equation could signal some sort of aggressive crackdowns (we saw this with the conjunction on April 1, 2020 when that whole “two weeks to stop the spread” thing was, well, a tad extended…).
Having said that, at least this time, the conjunction is in watery Pisces, which could dampen, if not the intent, at least the effectiveness of such behaviors.
On an individual level, I actually see this as a really powerful time to devote oneself to a slow-but-steady creative project, as one of the positive sides of Saturn in Pisces periods is they usually result in some absolutely kick-ass works of art, often relating to incredible worlds being made real such as the Lord of the Rings, Dune and Harry Potter (credit to The Astrology Podcast for giving me that astrological factoid).
Conclusion: Are We Ready for “the Aries”?
Phew. We’ll likely want a break after all that, but with the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction coming up in 10 days, don’t expect one to be given to you. You may have to make more effort than usual to give it to yourself. At least with it heading into mid-spring (or mid-fall in the Southern Hemisphere), Mother Nature may be a welcome place to go for respite.
While there are still several days left in Aries Season—and please feel free to look at the data at the start of this article to prepare yourself for their energies—I’ve ended up spending more time creating the “world” of this article than I thought I had energy for at the start of writing it several hours ago, and, well, I think I’ve given you more than enough temporal locales to rest your mind in.
Are you ready for this exciting start to the astrological new year?
If not, well, just do some searching online—many astrologers with much more experience than I have are doing great analyses of this period. But if you feel equipped, maybe you’d be happier if I left you with a song from my childhood that just popped into my head—feel free to change “The Eighties” to “The Aries” …… see you next time, and good luck!

Not to be nit-picky. Ok, I'm being nit-picky, but I think I found a slight error. You wrote:
"while the Moon in Aquarius forms a supportive trine to that soon-to-be conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus, the sign that Venus rules."
If the. Moon is in Aquarius, it would be a third quarter square to Jupiter and Uranus, no? That adds a bit more tension between the idealistic visions of Aquarius and the grounded earth realities of Taurus. Given that it's third quarter, Aquarius may be wondering why the seeds it attempted to plant during the first quarter square may not have taken root, possibly leading to some re-examination of the visions Aquarius holds for the earth. Just spit balling here....
