I’m a 47 year-old Lefty who left the US in summer 2004 at age 31 in part because of this process you are describing and the steady decline I perceived has only intensified in recent years.
That’s a long-winded way of saying, You aren’t wrong to feel as you do.
In fact, I have a lot of admiration for your continued efforts to document the situation AND keep working what I can only imagine is a super challenging job these days.
I’d like to perhaps offer some hope, though. There are circumstances coalescing that may force the Democratic Party to move left or be swept onto the dustbin of history. You’ve been writing about them so you know that things are coming to a head.
I heard a fascinating discussion on the Katie Halper show with the podcaster Mike Duncan who has studied and podcasted about revolutions and he said that revolutions usually occur when the elites get too stingy and unwilling to bend.
I suspect the Dems rallying around Biden instead of bending back to an FDR-style type in Bernie may be them going too far to protect their powerful friends, and, unlike in 2004, there IS a growing Left and polls show their opinions and solutions are widely popular.
Anyway, hang in there. The next several months are likely to be very surprising and we may be looking at a much more fertile ground for our ideas to germinate than we can imagine now.
