Loved this one and the message so much that I broke my rule of "if they already got 2,000 claps, just give 'em one more" and just did the 50 clap thing. (Yes, for those who don't know, you can clap up to 50 times on an article).
The more we can take on an attitude of "You ain't the boss of me" to anyone as we explore our creative outlets, the more we can possibly live in a way that is aligned with our values---i.e. have integrity.
Of course, as your experience shows, our system can make this rather challenging. if there's one thing in this essay I'd challenge it's that line about how we get to pick which game to play---sometimes true, hopefully more often than not---because I think the overall System we are is increasingly making it hard to play outside of it.
All this said, that stat that you threw into this excellent personal essay---the 1 in 6 Americans stay in unwanted jobs for their health benefits---reminds me as a Yank who has lived in Japan since 2004 that if you Yanks who are middle class and below could unite across your political differences on the issue of universal health care, god dang would that be a massive shift to your lives and likely the political landscape.
The problem is---and I say this as a former Bernie Sanders supporter who has always been very much against CV19 "vaccine" mandates--because of the very real, we-lived-through-it-and-won't-forget-it experience of many who ended up on the wrong side of Power with regard to CV19 policies, the likelihood of being able to convince us that a government-paid-for health care system is a good idea has been greatly reduced.
I'm sharing this deeper thought because I'm reflecting a lot on the longer-term fallout of the dishonesty and medical authoritarianism and this one has only recently bubbled to the surface of my consciousness.
Anyway, I wish you luck on whatever your next step is!
