I very much agree with you. And it's probably true that Jessica uses some of those techniques, especially in headlines and such to grab attention. I also think one of her flaws is wallowing in the problems and not pondering the solutions. I use "pondering" deliberately, because it means we don't have the solutions, we are merely brainstorming some ideas. Unfortunately too many seem to feed off the fuel of doom and gloom, which is a reflection of the nihilism of these times I think, so I know from experience as a writer on here that articles that stay in doom-and-gloom often do better than ones suggesting potential solutions.
