I agree with you, for the most part, though I tend to think fanaticism is a disease of disconnection from both the heart and the brain. It's funny my perspective changed from the moment I was beginning this response to when I wrote that sentence. Originally, I was going to write that I think fanaticism comes from the head (ideology) and suggests disconnection from the heart but then I realized some may be coming from the heart (emotional pain) disconnected from the head (calm rationalism), so now I see it's both. Anyway, I appreciate your comment not only because it is generous to the writer (unlike many comments) but because it spurred this growth in my awareness!
