I absolutely loved this article! It made me feel a lot of things, happiness, appreciation, sorrow and heightened awareness.
I especially connected with the story of your son, Gregory, for I, too, was scolded for not coloring in between the lines. In my case, it was by a pastor in a Sunday school and my mom, a pre-school teacher who really liked this pastor, was NOT happy with him about that.
For my mom and I share a similar personality and my mom knew I was the type who wasn't going to be the world's greatest painter (my stick-figure drawings are a source of continual laughter for my kids for their simplistic ineptitude! LOL), but she also knew I was very creative and enjoyed making art.
Anyway, I also appreciated how you summed up three other pieces and shared those and then shared your own.
IMHO, this kind of community-promotion is one of the things that not only makes a site like Medium stand out, but I think that is the economic/cultural age we are entering into: an Age of Collaboration and Cooperation more than Competition and DIY.
Anyway, thanks for writing this and congrats on getting curated! (I'm a fellow Medium Mastery guy and that's how I found this).
