In 2020, I was doing about half and half. But I had what I think are some pretty darn good articles rejected and, in retrospect, I believe it was based on ideological differences not the quality of writing or thought. At the time, though, I took it hard because I put a lot of work into it.
In 2023, I had a goal of writing one blog post per week, all self-published. I was happy with that, though of course wish I had more views. Unfortunately, life threw me a big curveball and put me in a situation where I had no Internet access for six weeks, thus ending the weekly blog post.
I'm going to start up again in July, but probably will move to Substack, because I've had not only articles but comments like this one removed by Medium's censors and I don't want to EVER write with the feeling that I can't express myself authentically and vulnerably.
In the end, I suppose this means I'm arguing for self-publishing even though I know it may mean perhaps less reach. Time will tell!
Thanks for the article---I love its presentation, too! How do you make these guys---🎈?? (I just copy and pasted)
